PROPERTY TAXES MAY BE WAIVED - If you are having difficulty paying your property taxes, you may be eligible for a Hardship Exemption. Pennfield Township sets its hardship requirements by Federal Poverty Guidelines. You may be eligible to have some or all of your yearly property taxes waived if you meet the requirements. Please stop in or call the Township Office to obtain the necessary paperwork or ask any questions you may have about this program. The deadline for submitting the paperwork each year is December 1st.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR SENIORS – Many senior citizens (65 and over) on fixed incomes are finding it more and more difficult to meet the increasing cost of living. Even if you don’t file federal or state tax returns you are still eligible for a Michigan Homestead Credit and Home Heating Credit.
The Michigan Homestead Credit is based on a percentage of total household income compared to property taxes due for that year or a percentage of rent paid during the year. Property taxes do not have to be paid when you apply for these credits. Many seniors like to file early and use the refunds to pay the taxes due.
The Michigan Home Heating Credit is also based on a percentage of total household income and heating costs.
